Oral cancer is one of the most treatable forms of cancer when diagnosed early enough. Here at Athens Dental Design, we provide oral cancer screenings to check for and help prevent this disease.
Oral cancer includes cancers of the lips. Tongue, cheeks, throat, sinuses, floor of the mouth, and hard and soft palates. Common symptoms of oral cancer include:
- A persistent sore throat
- The feeling that something is caught at the back of the throat
- Persistent or lasting sores on the face, neck or mouth which bleed easily and do not heal within two weeks
- Unexplained bleeding in your mouth
- Ear pain
- Lumps, bumps or rough spots on the gums, lips or other areas of the mouth
- Red, white or speckled red-and-white patches in the mouth
- Difficulty chewing, speaking or swallowing
- Changes in the fit of your dentures and oral appliances
- Changes in your bite or in how your teeth fit together
During your regular dental cleanings and exams, our dentists and team will perform an oral cancer screening to check for these signs. We encourage you to contact us immediately if you notice any of these signs or experience other dental pain so that we can perform a screening and diagnose oral cancer or any other problems as early as possible.
